Dr Alison Yiangou is the Curriculum and Trainer Lead for the Oxford Mindfulness Centre focusing on training mindfulness teachers nationally and internationally in MBCT, MBCT-L, and the new ‘Mindfulness: Taking it Further’ programme developed by OMC.
She has worked with Professor Willem Kuyken to develop the new 3-module ‘Introduction to Mindfulness’ curriculum and is on team of experts leading the field in competency assessment using the Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Teaching Assessment Criteria (MBI:TAC) and in use of the MBI:TAC in teacher training.
Alison has a background in Psychology and over 40 years of experience working internationally with meditation and mindful awareness in non-clinical settings. I have a particular interest in broadening access to MBCT – in different cultural settings and populations – and in the potential of MBCT to promote flourishing and wellbeing.
Workshop Topic:
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Life
This workshop introduces Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Life (MBCT-L or Mindfulness for Life), an evidence-based group skills training programme for the general population that integrates mindfulness practices with cognitive-behavioural exercises. Mindfulness for Life teaches skills for working wisely with life’s difficulties, appreciating moments of joy, contentment, and gratitude, keeping our balance through life’s ups and downs, and living with a greater sense of meaning and purpose.
The workshop combines experiential learning with presentation and discussion. Participants will have an opportunity to experience short mindfulness practices and to reflect on how they can be used in daily life. We will also describe the intentions and structure of the course, summarise its theoretical foundations, and review the research supporting its many benefits.
